Portugal is closing in on booking a spot into the round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup in Russia after hanging on to beat Morocco, 1-0, on Wednesday to move to four points in Group B. After drawing Spain in the opener, the Portuguese national team received another goal from Cristiano Ronaldo, this time to secure all three points. Ronaldo’s goal came early and, after his hat-trick in the 3-3 draw with Spain, he is making the running for the Golden Boot.

Cristiano Ronaldo today became the first Portuguese player since José Torres in 1966 to score a goal with his right foot, left foot and head in a World Cup tournament.

Cristiano Ronaldo continued his World Cup 2018 scoring streak with an early header against Morocco, to become Europe’s all-time top scorer with 85 international goals as Portugal sealed an important win.

After scoring a hat-trick in Portugal’s remarkable 3-3 draw against Spain in the second Group B match last Friday, Ronaldo matched Ferenc Puskás’s record as Europe’s all-time leading international marksman. Puskás scored 84 international goals for Hungary between 1945-1956.

And obviously, Twitter cannot stop comparing Ronaldo and Messi any time soon. A Ronaldo fan tweeted “Messi is more talented than Ronaldo but results beat talent every time. Ronaldo delivers no matter what shirt he’s in. Messi doesn’t. Ravel Morrison was a far better talent than Lingard. Lingard delivered results. Results matter more.”
